Palm Coast resident, Sarah Beth Allen recently hosted a Sweet Sixteen birthday party, which became a gift for Florida Hospital HospiceCare that will continue to give for years to come.
Sarah told her family she had everything she needed and wanted her friends and family to donate to Florida Hospital HospiceCare in lieu of gifts.
Sarah’s best friend recently had a family member as a patient in the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House and was so moved by the experience, she wanted to help the organization who helped her and her friend through a difficult time.
To make her wishes known, Sarah sent out a donation envelope with every birthday party invitation.
“When the call came regarding Sarah Allen’s request for donation envelopes, I was blown away,” said Cathy Cotes, Florida Hospital HospiceCare Community Liaison. “Birthdays, which are the ultimate celebration of life, are so special, and we were thrilled Sarah chose to celebrate her birthday by helping us.”
To-date, Sarah’s efforts have raised more than $1,000 from 14 donations.
“Sarah’s generous spirit will benefit the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House and Florida Hospital HospiceCare for years to come,” Coates said. “I hope other young people will see the power of Sarah’s selfless act of giving and our community will recognize that hospice experiences truly can symbolize joyfulness and hope in the midst of life’s transitions.”
