Emergency Department is Even Faster

Florida Hospital Flagler Emergency Department
is Even Faster with New Fast Track

Imagine going to an Emergency Department where patients are put on a “fast track” to decrease their time in the waiting room. Now that construction, which started March 10, is completed, patients can do just that.

“With this new Fast Track, we are stepping up to a 30-bed ER,” said Nilka Williams, Emergency Department Director at Florida Hospital Flagler.  “The Fast Track encompasses seven beds and will treat less acute patients, alleviating congestion in the Emergency Department and helping us meet our No Wait goal.”

Earlier in the year, Florida Hospital Flagler launched a goal of No Wait emergency care, which means that patients will have access to care within 5 minutes of their arrival to the Emergency Department.

“This is a goal we are meeting 90 percent of the time and climbing,” Williams said.

Emergency Department physician, Andrew Coleman, MD, believes the nearly $500,000 investment in Flagler County’s healthcare will help the ER meet that goal.

“The Fast Track allows us to move our patients from the waiting room and back to the Emergency Department much faster than before,” Dr. Coleman said.  “It makes it so we can see them in a much faster and more efficient fashion.”

Florida Hospital Flagler’s Emergency Department typically sees more than 34,000 patients annually and is expecting to see that number increase to approximately 38,000 patients this year.

“We just want to see these patients as quickly as possible and be able to move them on their way, so they can get back to their normal day,” Dr. Coleman said.
